My name is Chris Applegate. My son Cade and I own Applegate Show pigs and Grand Drive Genetics. Growing up on a farm, around my grandparents feed store, and shadowing my dad as he went on ag trips, to shows, and judging practices until I graduated high school it was only natural for me to persue a degree in agriculture. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in agriculture education and was offered a job in school administration as the coodinator of school facilities where I worked for ten years before starting a facilities management consulting business.
My Grandfather Ernest Applegate, started raising registered Durocs in the 1950's and 1960's. Ernest and his wife Edna owned and operated a feedstore in Sand Springs Oklahoma that had been in the family for about 75 years. My dad Leon Applegate grew up in agriculture and earned degrees in Agriculture Economics and Agriculture Education from Oklahoma State University and was Agriculture Teacher in Sand Springs for about 14 years before moving to school administration.
My father in law the late Donnie Gappa grew up in El Reno, OK where he farmed and was an insurance salesman. Donnie tought agriculture in Hooker, OK for a number of years before returning to El Reno to continue his farming operation.
